For nearly 20 years, our team has been actively involved with DISAB machines since their introduction into the EV rail operations fleet in 2006. We have managed all aspects of their lifecycle; operation, routine servicing, fault diagnosis, and major maintenance. This long-term engagement has given us in-depth technical knowledge and extensive hands-on experience, ensuring optimal performance and reliability in demanding rail environments.
We have worked closely with the OEM on key improvement initiatives, including recent overhauls, hopper extensions, weigh cell installations, condition assessments, and plant approvals.
Currently, we continue to provide technical support and valuable input to the ongoing overhaul project in partnership with the EV Project and Engineering teams.
London Underground Expertise
Our team has substantial experience working on London Underground infrastructure during engineering hours, including mid-week and weekend possessions. We are fully conversant with LU Rule Book procedures, site access processes, and isolation requirements. All operatives hold relevant LU competencies and have delivered maintenance, inspection, and cleaning tasks within tightly controlled possession periods, always prioritising safety, planning, and compliance.
Major Project Delivery
We have successfully delivered works on major projects such as B2F, BTR’s, ETR’s, and drainage works, requiring strict adherence to London Underground, TfL, and rail industry standards.
These projects involved close coordination with LU engineering teams, compliance with safety and operational protocols, and implementation of high-quality maintenance practices.
Our Workforce
Our multi-disciplined operatives are trained to operate and maintain DISAB machines, including emergency recovery using backup generators and manual hydraulic systems. They hold qualifications in mechanical and electrical maintenance, fault finding, and diagnostics, as well as operational competencies for rail environments. This dual capability enables rapid response to technical issues and maximises machine availability.
We also hold certifications for EV operations across other plant, including the Weedkiller Train, VCM, SBW, and RSDT, and have provided specialist assistance with equipment removal, installation, and maintenance on Roll Loader, De-Icer, and RSDT units.
DISAB Machine Overview
The DISAB is a powerful, wagon-mounted diesel vacuum system with material storage capability. It can excavate a wide range of materials and liquids from the track bed or surrounding areas. Common applications include ballast removal and replacement to prevent wet beds, contaminated waste removal, and drainage clearance. The service includes track labour and specialist operation, with operational capability up to 10 meters during engineering hours and full capacity during possession works.
